Accenda History
Accenda was born from a deep passion for making IT work for people - not the other way around.
Ian, our founder, began his journey back in 2007 working with a software consultancy company in Southampton. This experience revealed one truth: technology is only meaningful when it solves real problems.
With national experience in healthcare systems, Ian quickly saw how fragmented systems were. Data didn’t flow, referrals were broken, and clinicians were overwhelmed with outdated, manual processes. He knew he could do better.
That belief led to the founding of Accenda – a digital health consultancy firm committed to fixing the fundamentals of care delivery.
Accenda’s first major break came when Sanofi, a global healthcare company, needed a solution to support their adverse event reporting. The solution was built in less than a week and this partnership set the tone for how we work: we listen, we understand, and we build solutions that work – fast.
Our work with Sanofi continued over the next few years and we completed successful projects for other global life science leaders, Pfizer and Regeneron. But healthcare was always at the heart of Accenda.
In 2010, we were invited to revisit a project on referral management in Manchester, England. That pilot became the first iteration of what’s now known as Gateway® – our flagship digital referral support platform. Designed side by side with clinicians, Gateway® helped turn a chaotic, paper-based system with 115 referral forms into a streamlined digital process that tripled the utilisation of local community services.
We’ve spent the last 15+ years at Accenda refining Gateway® – with more NHS integration, deeper clinical insight, and smarter workflows. Today, Gateway® integrates with EMIS, TPP, and e-RS.
